Elephant hair jewelry was a popular souvenir during the period of British rule in India, and as a result, it was fashionable in the Victorian era. This ring would have been brought back to England towards the end of the 19th Century. Each strand is actually a piece of hair from an elephant (usually collected when they have fallen out or gotten caught on bushes) and then made into a souvenir ring.
